Forty years of creative work in marketing & merchandising has allowed me to develop an eye for telling a story through distinctive, unique, interesting, and often obscure visual styles through a unique perspective.

About the Artist

Ned M Albright Jr

I am an original Rock Hill, South Carolina native. I landed in the Dalton, Georgia area shortly after college; roughly forty years ago. College included a BFA in Graphic Design with a great deal of study in the fine arts as well.

While having drawn, painted, and created since a young buck, the real approach began upon the commission of a piece for a client’s new office. That surprisingly lead into a solo gallery show. Since then I’ve participated in several juried shows, with a few awards, quite a few solo shows and exhibitions with other artists around the region. Although mostly I’ve sold my work privately.

Fortunate early years, along with sufficient success in the design business, has allowed a wonderful life with extensive U.S. and world travels creating unforgettable adventures. I draw much inspiration and visual expression from many of these memories.

In early 2012 I needed a break from the life I was living to rearrange priorities and get some addiction problems under control. That time served as a life changing process for me. One which includes many sacrifices but offers entirely new and priceless outlooks on life and living.

While maintaining a freelance career in visual design, I enjoy immersing myself in the creations that bring me the most joy! My work begins as a thought, a concept, or emotion. I then create a background canvas, and let the objects, colors, materials, and construction tell a story. Often I kind of allow a piece to create itself … fluidly fabricating its own story through me.

I hope you’ll enjoy all you see. I’ll be happy to talk with you about any of it. To buy, simply email or call me.

The Corporate Years

My Creative Process

I Like My Work to Tell a Story

My work flows best when I first have a memory, a conversation, or just an imagined narrative I want to tell. Pieces seem to stream together in a frenzied, serendipitous way as I work through colors and thousands of pieces of junk, wood, and oddities I’ve collected over the years. I’ll create a background; bend, twist, weld, cut, paint, and arrange in a way that’s pleasing to me and hopefully reflects the story I had in mind.

Sometimes, It Tells Me Its Own Story

My other approach, which I find far more challenging, is to start with a blank canvas. It may be wood, canvas, metal, or any other suitable material. This is a more spontaneously random technique, so I’ll typically start creating layers of paint, objects, and shapes. Eventually the piece will start to show itself and unveil the story it wants me to tell. From that point, I may start over or continue along, until the composition tells me how to proceed to the final stages of the story.

What To Expect

Detailed Craftsmanship

If a piece looks old and rotting, it’s meant to be that way. I’m overly meticulous in the construction and details of each piece. I use very few shortcuts or quick solutions. You’ll get handcrafted, carefully, and thoroughly engineered craftsmanship. I’ll never admit the number of daunting hours spent on any given piece of work. I assure you, it’s MUCH more time & effort than one might imagine at first glance.

Accurate Representation and Full Disclosure

If you’ve got questions about any portion of a piece, the materials used, or a particular construction technique, just ask. I’ll be happy to send detailed photos & accurate descriptions to resolve any questions or concerns you may have.
